What Excatly Is An IFSC Code Of a Bank?

Well.. To be specific, RBI(Reserve Bank Of India) allots a 11 digit unique code for identifying banks & their branches across India. Please note, different branches of the same bank have a different IFSC Code & they won't share a common code. This code is termed as IFSC(Indian Financial System Code). IFSC Codes are used for NEFT(National Electronic Fund Transfer) & RTGS(Real Time Gross Settlement) process.

To be precise, RTGS stands for Real Time Gross Settlement. It the mechanism for transferring funds from one bank to another bank. RTGS is considered to be the fastest mechanism adapted for money transfer. MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognization. Its an unique 9 digit code printed on the bottom strip of your cheques. MICR Code helps in the process of identifying & clearning of cheques.
